The Start of Following Obey

My assignment for my fashion marketing class is to follow a brand. It was hard for me to choose one because I couldn't think of one on the spot. I'm new to this whole blogging thing, I know shocking, and we'll see how this turns out and how I progress. The brand I decided to follow is Obey. I've been into this brand for a while, it's not couture or very big with the fashion world, but Obey is very political and stands out by putting very political and out there images on their products.
A little bit about their background is, It all started out with Shepard Fairey, Ryan Lesser, along with Blaize Blouin, Alfred Hawkins, and Mike Mongo. They created vinyl stickers and posters with an image of the wrestler Andre the Giant. It was directed at hip hop and skater subculture and then began posting them in Providence, Rhode Island and the rest of the Eastern United States. By the early 1990s, ten of thousands of paper and vinyl stickers were photocopied and hand-silkscreened and put in visible places throughout the world. This still continues. Fairey wanted to reach to people through as many different platforms as possible. He wanted to encourage street art and public freedom of speech. There has been a lot of parodies of Andre the Giant and posse.
The ideal customers are teenagers to young adults who likes streetwear and skating wear. Obey is also versatile, they sale women's dresses, tees, jackets, shorts, pants, hats, sweatshirts, purses, and accessories. More of the products they sale are; men's jackets, sweatshirts, tees, tank tops, hats, accessories, shorts, and pants. Obey has different collections out. It has many things to choose from.
